OECD 230: Fish assay (21-day)
The OECD 230: 21-Day Fish Assay is used to screen for certain endocrine active substances. Sexually mature male and female fish are exposed to a test chemical for 21 days. After exposure indicators for oestrogenic and/or aromatase inhibition or androgenic activity of the test chemical are investigated. One or two biomarker endpoints (depending on species used) are measured in both males and females: vitellogenin (fathead minnow, Japanese medaka and zebrafish) and secondary sexual characteristics (fathead minnow and Japanese medaka only).
